So, the rightwing has been making a big deal out this guy, William Ayres, because he was a radical 40 years ago and Obama worked on a board with guy in Chicago.
They think this is a big deal.
Enough for McCain to try to target Obama with him and hope to destroy Obama over it.
But, the problem for McCain is that he hangs around a known convict.
So, why is this not a problem?
The way I see it, there is always a ying and a yang. For every problem person Obama knows, there is an equally problem person for McCain.
William Ayres was a radical youth 40 years ago when so many under the age of 30 were radical. It was a time of social upheval.
Since then, Ayres grew up, settled down and became an authority on Education and worked at the University of Chicago.
Barack Obama worked at the University as well and served on board and Ayres was the expert in this issue and close at hand. They were co-workers and happened to live in the same neighborhood. Like other professors of the University.
While Ayres past was not something to be proud of, it is ancient history and he's moved on and became a productive citizen.
John McCain happens to pal around with a known convict. G. Gordon Liddy is infamous.
So, why is it okay for John to hang out with Liddy but, not okay for Obama to work on a project with co-worker Ayres?
What is the difference?
Ayres is not a wanted felon who is hiding from his crimes. He is fine with the law and even worked on some boards with the Mayor of Chicago and with conservative professors at the University.
They will bring up Rev. Wright. But, I raise you a Hagee for their Rev. Wright.
They will trot out Rezko but, I have a Charles Keating for their Rezko.
If the right wants to smear and tar Obama as dangerous for his associations with a few characters, I have equal ones to counter with.
If they want to make an issue of Ayres, Wright and Rezko, I say let's throw them Liddy, Hagee and Keating right back at them.
If Obama is some scary other, then so is John.
Ya Betcha!
