ElBlot is in a tough position. He fought against the bailout bill, which was passed on the votes of his own party, the Democrats who control both houses of Congress. His nominee, Barack Obama, was said to have been instrumental in turning Democratic votes in favor of the bill.
ElBot pulls no punches - he is disappointed in the performance and values exhibited by his party. He finds himself in square opposition to many he has long supported and defended. Beyond Obama there are Pelosi, Dodd, Frank, and others who have benefited from his support. ElBlot feels the effort from his side was weak. at best.
But he also knows that he is part of a movement with which he shares much. The alternative does not conform to his palate, and for ElBlot apathy is not an option.
There is a tenet of Leninism (I think) called "Democratic Socialism" in which individuals are free to disagree on policy until a formal decision is made. But once that decision has been made, everyone must embrace it as if it were their own idea. ElBlot says this is bulsshit, and will continue to fight to move his party in the direction that his values demand.
