A Thought on Guilt By Association--What Obama should do.
The attacks from the McCain campaign on Barack Obama's "judgement" and his (tangential) associations is a pathetic attempt to put Obama's character on display as "potentially dangerous" based on his DIFFERENCE (age, race, personal experience, views). This smear campaign/tactic/joke is riddled with racial undertones (as suggested by the AP yesterday) and is being used to support the instincts and biases of those who are "afraid" of change as well as the base and ignorant argument that a biracial man should not be a leader of the "free" world.
Since the "guilt by association" card has been played, Obama's (brilliant)camp should continue to play the ACTUALLY ASSOCIATED card. They began with an excellent documentary on the Keating Five, released today on www.keatingeconomics.com
Futhermore, we can find so much support for affiliations to which McCain and Palin have been associated to (not with and not "kind of"): From Mr. Palin, the Dude's, membership in the Alaskan Succession Party to McCain's far right wing politics of the past--he and his state was of the last to support the MLK holiday. There so many places to go, and the Obama camp should go there.
In the meantime, Barack Obama himself, should stay above the fray. Allow his peeps to play dirty. We have serious issues to address, and Obama wants to address them. So he should. And let McCain and Palin bring up the mud and Axelrod and company compare Rev. Wright to Sarah's witch hunting/ jewish "converting!?!" pastors.
We need leadership. Wall Street is a hurricane and Washington is a tornado. Barry, my dear, lead. Be classy, keep us calm and remind us that you are the best chance we have to change the malaise of the last 8 years.
