I don't write diaries. I lurk. I read the work of others. But I cannot believe what I am reading, and feel a need to get the word out. There is a group that help soldiers get dogs from Iraq to soldiers homes in the US. That group is Bagdad Pups. This is the story of one soldier and dog they are trying to help.
This article tells the story of Sgt. Gwen Beberg, a stop-lossed soldier serving in Iraq. She is currently under investigation, and faces a possible court martial for the crime of adopting a puppy. In addition, the puppy will likely be executed. In front of the soldier. As part of her punishment. Please note I didn't say euthanized, I said executed. They shoot the dogs.
I cannot begin to describe how angry this makes me. I'm sure many of you will feel the same way. I'm not sure who we can contact about this, but there must by something that can be done. We are better than this.
This SPCA press release backs up the story
