If you can't hit a ball off a tee, you shouldn't be president. And McCain's advisors are worthless. McCain had to hit a home run tonight. He had to be knowledgeable and human. He blew a chance at the latter right off the bat.
How hard would it have been for him when thanking Belmont and Brokaw to have at least acknowledged the death of Joe Biden's mother-in-law? Biden bent over backwards last week to call McCain a friend. What kind of friend doesn't acknowledge the loss of a relative? If he had extended his condolences to Biden, that would have made him seem gracious and, well, human. Instead, he just goes on to answer the question.
Just like Palin blew it by plowing ahead with her answer Thursday after Biden choked up when discussing his family tragedy, so did McCain by not acknowledging Jill Biden's mother's death. It was graceless and it was telling. But we already suspected as much.
