It's been one helluva week down here in South Florida, and the summer-like heat is boiling over in our race in FL's 25th District.
On Monday, Telemundo released a new poll showing us just two points behind, our strongest position so far in the election and well within the margin of error. Later that evening, Joe had the opportunity to personally speak directly to the residents of one of the largest and most influential coalitions of home-owners associations in Miami-Dade County. Joe addressed the real issues facing the people of this community, while Mario Diaz-Balart resorted to snide jokes and empty rhetoric. After hearing from both candidates, the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations decided to reject a sitting Congressman--who they've endorsed in the past--in order to endorse Joe Garcia for this year's race!
On Tuesday, we were forwarded a nasty e-mail that is being circulated by a locally-based blog that shall remain nameless and certainly will not receive a link. We could put up the offending post, but we think this flyer they're distributing says plenty.
This sort of thing isn't even that surprising when you consider the false "Enron Joe" attacks our opponent himself has lobbed onto the airwaves. As we posted before, several local media outlets have debunked the ad and we have called on Diaz-Balart to take it down. What has he done? This week he doubled-down and increased his ad buy!
Here's what we're fighting back with:
We also learned on Tuesday that George W. himself will be here in Miami tomorrow night to raise money for the infamous Diaz-Balart brothers. Unfortunately, because of "a full campaign schedule", neither of the brothers will be able to stand with the same President that they have supported so strongly in the past. (We just wish there was something we could do to help combat this!)
Wednesday provided a first for this entire region. All six candidates were in one place at one time to address the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce at a "forum". (full video) Despite calls for a real debate, the organizers of the event refused to change the format because the staff of an unnamed - and still unrepentant - Republican member of Congress said that they would not be involved unless they were provided the questions ahead of time. The planned moderator of the forum walked away, calling it a "farce". The response afterwords was overwhelmingly positive, as countless members of the local business community approached Joe to tell him how pleased they were with his remarks and how sick they were of Mario Diaz-Balart's failed policies.
We are looking forward to another great weekend filled with canvassing and phone banking, and we continue to be overwhelmed with both the quantity and quality of volunteers that want to help South Florida back on the right track. We're so pleased with our position and know we will win, but we need your continued support. Again, thank you all for your continued efforts to support our campaign!
Go Joe!
