10,000+ Parrotheads and Obama supporters gathered at the Ford Amphitheater in Tampa this past Sunday for a free early voting rally headlining Jimmy Buffett. I couldn't seem to find any coverage of the concert - so here are some photos documenting the event.
The crowd danced, sang, high-fived... despite the on-again, off-again rain, the mood was exuberant. By the time the concert started, every seat in the amp was full.
Jimmy Buffett played classics including Volcano, Margaritaville, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Last Mango in Paris, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Brown Eyed Girl, Come Monday, Fins, It's 5:00 Somewhere, License to Chill, and Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes.
(Personally, I thought he missed an opportunity by not playing "I used to have money one time.")
Anyway, the energy was great and I was moved by how good people were to each other. To the Gator fans in front of us, thanks for offering your nice thick blanket when the cold rain started to blow in. To all the men who offered assistance to my mother-in-law, who has difficulty walking due to a recent back surgery, thank you for your kindness. To Alina, the woman who rushed over with an umbrella as I was carrying my sleeping toddler back to the car in the rain, thanks for walking with me and keeping us dry. To the guys who told my husband that yes, the Bucs had won in overtime, you made him very, very happy!
I am glad my family was able to be part of this event. Living in a red neighborhood, I wanted to be sure my children knew that we weren't alone in our philosophies and desire for change.
More photos to come once I can find the cord to the OTHER camera. Sorry about the sizing issue - I'm new at this.
