This is the first election that I have registered for, let alone vote in. I live in Lawrence, Kansas and registered sometime in September. I have double and tripled check my registration status online, both at the SoS's voter registration verification website, and at my county voter registration site. I went onto Google Maps last night to make sure I had the correct precinct when I went to vote. I couldn't sleep last night, and I woke up at 8am, extremely excited to cast my vote for Barack Obama. The lines were very short at my polling place, and I walked up to the M-Z line. I told the poll worker my name, and she could not find it anywhere.
I was forced to vote by provisional ballot, and I didn't even get one of those "I voted" stickers. I can't help but feel that my first time voting has been severely diminished. How the hell can I be purged, when I showed up online as actively registered?
On a side note, there were at least 8 provisional ballots cast before me; I noticed this when I signed the Provisional Ballot poll register. I've got to give it up to my horrible SoS, Ron Thornburgh, for his bullshit voter caging and supression tactics.
I've looked briefly, but does anybody know the Voter Protection Hotline?
UPDATE: I called the Douglas County Elections Office, and the very nice woman on the phone informed me that I am registered to vote, and that I voted at the correct precinct, so my vote will count. While I am extremely alleviated about this, I am still very frustrated that I (along with at least 8 people as of 8:15a) was purged from the voter rolls.
UPDATE # 2: Some in the comments have asked me what the poll workers asked me to do in order to verify my registration. The woman that handled my provisional ballot never told me I needed to fix an error or verify my registration; this is probably due to the fact that I had the correct precinct, and even showed her my voter card I received in the mail.
