The elections are over and we've selected change. Supreme kudos to President-Elect Barack Obama! You fought and won a hard rough election. You resisted and pushed back relentless attacks and smears. We are celebrating now but tomorrow you have to roll up your sleeves and get to work. The first thing you need to do is get into the drivers seat and get us out of this ditch. You may have to go in reverse and/or rock the vehicle to get us out of the rut we are in. Neither scenario is pleasant. Use whatever political capital you gain to make the journey as smooth as possible.
Let's applaud the efforts from the higher eschelon of the democratic party:
Howard Dean - 50 state strategy
Ted Kennedy - passing of the torch
Bill and Hillary Clinton - making a rough and bruising primary and preparing Obama for the general election. Very important.
Al Gore - support for the general election. The Florida reminder.
John Kerry - I think Obama got a lot of his poise and style from Kerry. He taught kung fu to all democrats about resisting the smear and swiftboat tactics.
Harry Reid - Senatorial support during economic crisis.
Nancy Pelosi - Primary closure and nomination less drama. Congressional support during economic crisis.
There are countless others but their deeds don't go unnoticed.
