It is now official that Barack Obama took North Carolina. The report is from the AP and is being carried on MSNBC
NEW YORK - President-elect Obama is the apparent winner in North Carolina, a symbolic triumph in a state that hadn't voted for a Democrat in more than a generation.
Until today the ballot count in North Carolina was still too close for a call. An "apparent winner" call by NBC News means enough votes have now been tallied to indicate that a candidate has won the race, but the results may well depend upon a potential recount or final official tallies.
The Associated Press also declared Obama the winner Thursday after canvassing counties in North Carolina to determine the number of outstanding provisional ballots.

Barack Obama's big victory on Tuesday just keeps getting bigger.
The Associated Press is now giving the president-elect North Carolina, too, concluding that there are not enough uncounted ballots left for John McCain to overcome Obama's lead. The win in North Carolina gives Obama a whopping 364 Electoral College votes, with Missouri the only state that's too close to call.
The victory in North Carolina adds yet another solidly red state to Obama's column. His success in the Tar Heel State, as well as his wins in Indiana and Virginia, are a remarkable achievement. No Democratic candidate has won North Carolina since Jimmy Carter in 1976; Indiana and Virginia last voted for a Democrat in 1964.
So Obama has not just redrawn the map. He's printed an entirely new one.

Obama Wins North Carolina, AP Projects; Missouri Undecided
By Nadine Elsibai
Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama won North Carolina's 15 electoral votes, the Associated Press projected, leaving Missouri as the only state yet to be called in the presidential race.
Obama bested Republican John McCain in a state that has gone Republican in nine of the last 10 elections. With all precincts reporting, Obama got 14,053 votes more than McCain out of about 4.3 million cast.
Obama already had more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. With North Carolina, he has 364 electoral votes to McCain's 163.
