Yesterday I posted about Saxby Chambliss setting a new bar for ugliness in elections in his race against the triple-amputee Vietnam vet Max Cleland in 2002. I included a link to a fundraising page on ActBlue for people to donate to Jim Martin, who faces Chambliss in a runoff election on December 2nd in the name of vengeance, retribution, and vindication for a man who served honorably as both a soldier and a Senator, and was unseated using smears and scares that set the gold standard borne by the Swift Boats in 2004, and the all-Ayers-all-the-time broken record that we've finally lifted the needle on.
I spent much of the general election among those begging Barack Obama to take the gloves off, cringing at every moment I heard anyone repeat the mantra of "people are tired of negative campaigning and character attacks," certain this was a path to defeat. I was dead wrong, and don't mind having my foot in my mouth for it -- especially if it means a real repudiation of attacks like this one, that helped get the dishonorable Sen. Chambliss his seat:
Now that we've elected a President who lived up to his promise to do away with the dirty politics of yesteryear, it would be a fine follow-up to give those who ascended to power on such wings of scum their walking papers. If that's the goal, Saxby Chambliss should be the first to go. We won't be getting our 60 seat majority with this one seat, but on strictly human terms, a victory for Jim Martin would count for at least three. One for him, one for Max Cleland, and one for decency. So please, help Jim out and give him a few bucks.
