I wish I could say I thought of it, but I didn't. My long-time friend Janice says she woke up yesterday with the idea.
Rachel Maddow for Press Secretary.
Think about it.
Maddow has shown herself to be one of the most nimble, intelligent and skilled interviewers on television. Her lightening speed insight into real-time comments, her grasp of issues in all their complexity, and her ability to deflect critics (read: David Frum) make her a natural for Press Secretary.
While she can snark things up with the best of 'em in her solo remarks, I've never seen her be anything but gracious when speaking to the guests on her show.
Just picture her standing in front of the White House Press Corp - actually answering the questions she is asked. An artful dodger when necessary but never condescending, never full of total BS like so many we could name here.
She would, I think, be outstanding in the position. And the smart reporters in the room would probably love the elevated give and take.
Imagine: a thoughtful, intelligent Press Secretary.
Now that really IS a change we need.
