Just a short entry about my early voting experience today.
Wow! I live in Clark County, Indiana and was going to vote Tuesday since my usual polling location is just a few blocks from my home, but I decided to vote early today because I just couldn't wait any longer to cast my vote for Obama. It was a five hour wait! I was there from a little before 1:00 p.m. to a little after 6:00 p.m., when I finally got to vote. When I called at about 10:00 this morning they said it would be about a two hour wait. By the time I got there an avalance of voters had turned up. The poll worker who gave me my number said early voting had taken about two hours for people in the last week, but this afternoon the turnout was amazing! I'm still having trouble believing that this many people in our little county turned up to vote in just one day. Everyone was cheerful and friendly and there was lots of conversation about how historic this election is and how this kind of turnout should really be the norm in every election. One young lady was turned away for wearing a campaign shirt, but the officer who was manning the metal detector at the door told her she could just turn her shirt inside out, so she went out to her car, turned her shirt inside out and came right back in.
I'm really tired right now, but I can't help feeling elated at the same time.
