Cooked in the twisted minds of right-wing goons is the insatiable urge to put on their Tom Clancy hat, come up with an outlandish premise, and stretch words to make a reality of that nightmare in order to give themselves a villain to rant about.
Obama has turned that throttle to 11 as we saw during the election - baby-killing gay Muslim Socialist terrorist - but while we got a little bit of The One in terms of his personality, we were spared the warnings that electing Obama would install a dictatorship with brownshirts doing his bidding.
Enter Republican Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia (yeah, I couldn't believe it either...) who points to Obama's words on a strong Peace Corps as evidence that Obama plans to create a force of minions to keep people in line here at home.
"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force. I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."
Broun goes on to say:
"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did. When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."
What's gotten Broun all scared was a speech Obama gave stressing the need for an expanded civil service corps, including double the amount of Peace Corps.
Broun went on predict Obama would take people's guns away and warned:
"We can't be lulled into complacency. You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."
I'm not saying Rep. Broun is a child-molesting psychopath, but there is the potential. Broun's legislative claim to fame is trying to ban pornography from military bases.
This is the same Paul Broun who barely finished 2nd in a 2007 special election and in a runoff was aided by his opponent who said the University of Georgia - save the football team - should be bombed for being a "liberal bastion." Broun still only won by less than 400 votes.
Now Rep. Broun is doing the good people of his 10th District the service of warning us all about the incoming Obama dictatorship. I suspect the right fringe will continue to cook these plots up in their head because they are the true "patriots" protecting us all.
