Today's the day for GBLT New Yorkers (and their supporters) to show solidarity with our brothers and sisters in CA, as well as AZ, FL and AR. Join us at 6:30 pm today at the Church of Latter Day Saints at Columbus Ave and 65th St. For more info, go here.
The Mormon Church made it their holy mission to pass Prop 8. This is nothing new, this Church has fought our community's march toward marriage equality at every turn, from Hawaii to California.
Why you should care motivate yourself to come, after the jump.
The Mormons are going to come after us in the Empire State, do not imagine they won't. Things are, by some reports, looking cautiously optimistic for the prospect of gay marriage arriving in New York soon. (Although, there is work to do.) The Mormons are certainly making their plans to thwart it. Fine. Let's tell them what we think of that.
The protests must be getting to them. Why else are they writing press releases whining about them? My favorite tidbit of from their statement?
No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information.--Official LDS statement
Oh, hypocrisy, thy name is Mormon! Erroneous information like the myriad lies "Yes on 8" folks fed the public? Harrasment like their Sopranos-style blackmail attempts of "No on 8" supporters, also chronicled here?
Keep the pressure on them. But remember, let's be peaceful and plenty.
Maybe after blowing off some steam, I can stop being such a bitch? Maybe someday, we GBLT can feel too, that change really has come and this isn't just the same shit, different day.
If you can't make it today, another protest is planned for City Hall on Saturday at 1:30 pm. More information is here.
Update: Had a great time, people were peaceful, but fired up. Overhead on the street, "This has a lot more cute guys than the last protest I went to."
Here's an albumfrom the event. Feel free to use them as you like.
