Before we go down the oft told story of Paul Broun, I want to make a larger point....ask a bigger question. Here is a comment from Jay Bookmanat the Atlanta-Journal Constititution:
Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly et. al don’t really care whether there’s a Republican in the White House; in fact, their ratings go UP when they have a Democratic administration to rail about. They are quite content to fixate on silly little things that don’t resonate at all among the general voting public but that get their own audience all fired up and angry. And again, if that makes their audience seem foolish to the rest of us, they don’t care. They still cash those seven-figure paychecks.
It is quite an interesting piece and I think why the Republicans are tanking. Too many elected officials actually take them serious.
So back to Broun. But first a little history. Here is Obama. The basic concept is that if we are going to have a military force around the world, it is quite obvious we need another force that deals with the more mundane things of civil engineering, social engineering, etc. The kind of things that don't look great on TV, but really make locals happy. Having roads, water, electricity, etc. are equally important as security. A simple concept.
The right-wing blogosphere, not being known for fact checking, took this out of context and created some internal security force that coupled with taking guns away, will destroy the 'rights' of the Mericans.
Had Broun even asked the leaders of his own party, he would have found this out. Instead, he continues his idiotic idiotic rants.
Or he could have gone to Factcheck.org and realized that all those idiots he was listening to, were just that. Blowhards.
Guess what. It doesn't matter. Here is an interview between Broun and the local talk radio host. Neither one of them are aware of reality. They both are baffled why no one made a big deal out of this terrifying idea. Both oblivious to the fact that the State Dept has been working on parts of this for two years.
Although the guy that gave that interview yesterday with Broun did have some words of caution this morning. The only thing keeping this area economically stable is Fort Gordon and Savanah River Site. I think the local powers are worried his idiotic ramblings might endanger the funding for those sites. Sounds good to me. It would be funny as hell if Pelosi calls him in and tells him government funding for both will be cut. It is the first phase in the conservative mantra of 'reducing the size of government'. See how fast his conservative ass changes tune.
