Let me just add to the chorus of fellow liberals/progressive/dems who are thoroughly enjoying the Right's whining and future implosion as a party. It's been highly entertaining, especially with Ring Master Sarah Palin plastering herself all over the news. This is the election season we've been waiting for. All of our patience, hand wringing and hard work has come to fruition.
We know what's going to come. The Right is not even trying to hide it. Rush is already labeling the current economic crisis as "The Obama Recession" and the word is out that, despite an overwhelming victory of a liberal Dem to the highest office, we are a center right nation. Who knew?
O'Reilly tried that schtick with Jon Stewart last night and was properly ridiculed. So what is their problem anyway?
Simple.
The Right has been all over the MSM attempting to justify the results.
Obama just spent more money and bought the election. (Here in MA, i actually overheard a conversation bewteen two Rethugs basically undermining Obama's victory because of the money)
Other explanations include the liberal media was biased for Obama, the mean old MSM ganged up on Poor Sarah Palin, Obama didn't really win, it's just the people rejecting Bush, and of course, if the economy didn't collapse, McCain would have won easily.
Whatever makes them sleep better at night, I guess.
This is what the conservatives don't understand and this is why they will continue to wander in politically obscurity for the forseable future.
We have better ideas than they do. That's it. People actually rejected (for the first time in a long time) the temptation to vote out of fear and used their heads to choose the better man for the job.
I'm glad to at least see some prominent conservatives standing up and saying this, but a majority of Rethugs and right-wing pundits, can't see it. They still think Palin will lead them. (Oh God, i can't ever say that without laughing hysterically!)
The fact is this: The American people listened to Obama and liked what he had to say. They liked his ideas. They were encouraged by his platform and inspired by his rhetoric. He was consistent in his vision for this country and the American people stood up and said loudy, we will follow this man.
McCain had nothing. And as a result of his myopic campaign he was soundly rejected by the people of this great nation.
I heard one of the right's new "stars", Gov. Tim Pawlenty, saying on MSNBC yesterday that Republicans have good ideas but need a better way of conveying them to the American people.
Ideas? Really?
Republicans have ideas alright but they are bad ideas. Seriously, where has he been the last eight years?
The old joke used to be that Democrats are the party of no ideas and the Republicans are the party of bad ones.
That is no longer the case for the Dems.
Any poll i've ever seen anywhere proves this. People want government to work better, they want jobs to stay in this country, they want green technology and solutions to the global environmental crisis, they want out of this war and they want more regulation.
McCain's people knew this and as a result they made their campaign one about fear and hate and division.
It didn't work this time and it won't anymore, as long as the Dems continue to clearly state their ideas, which Obama did brilliantly.
If we keep doing that, fear alone will never again be the deciding factor in electing our president.
