One thing that is absolutely certain is that we have many fine, talented, and powerful Democrats in the Senate.
Perhaps we should keep it that way.
I'll admit I haven't been paying terribly close attention to the rumors of Cabinet appointments, but it seems that a lot of Senators are under consideration. I can understand why, as both Clinton and Kerry are incredibly talented and qualified people. But really, how many Senators can we afford to lose?
Already, two major players in the Senate are gone. I'm certainly thrilled that Obama and Biden will be occupying the White House, and my gut says that we can easily replace them. But the numbers keep on adding up. If Clinton goes, if Kerry goes, and I'm gonna throw Dodd out there too because I like him, how would that effect the Democratic caucus?
It's my opinion that replacing 4 prominent Senators with governor appointees will weaken our caucus' ability to get much done. The newbies would have little clout, no experience, and replacing some of our most consistent, LIBERAL members.
I really hope Obama chooses more people from outside the Senate than rumor suggests.
