I began posting comments on DKos sometime before the 2006 election. Before that, since before the 2004 election, I had been posting comments to articles on the online version of my local newspaper. That was a great experience because there were many there who knew for certain that Liberals were cut and runners and my mission in life was to debunk them. It was a free for all sometimes. I learned that no matter how much truth there was on my side, the right-wing nut-job mouth breathers either were going to drown me out with talking points, or attack me on a person level mercilessly when that failed. So in order to seek out greener pastures, and having heard how great DKos is, I signed up in 2006.
For me, jumping into DKos was akin to the country bumpkin coming to the city for the first time and how amazed and frightened he is at the hustle and bustle. It was like stepping off the small hometown train into some big train station. I didn’t know how I would fit. Well, since I was here, I decided to give it a go.
I was met with courtesy and kindness for the most part with the few comments and diaries I did post (I got hammered on some of my comments by fellow liberals, but that is to be expected, I suppose) and was generally pleased with how easily newcomers are welcomed here.
But now something has changed, something I didn’t expect and has left me wondering if I’m welcome here anymore. I have lost my ability to HR! I immediately emailed the tech guru and inquired about this. The reply stated that I have not commented enough to maintain a Trusted User status.
I’m hurt. I’m not upset about the fact that I can’t HR a comment. I’m saddened that the powers that be here at DKos feel like I need to be punished for not posting enough comments. I’m not a trusted user because I’m not motor-mouthed? Does this not make sense to anyone but me?
Well, here’s my tally:
I’ve posted 37 comments so far this month since 11/01/08 (17 days inclusive) that’s roughly 2.2 comments per day. Not bad for someone who is reasonably busy?
Out of those 37 comments in 15 days I have had 129 recommends and that’s an average of just fewer than 3.5 recommends per comment. That may not be top ten material, but it’s not too shabby.
So, what's going on here? Am I the only one singled out for such harsh treatment, or are there other country bumpkins out there with little to say who can join with me? Do I have to post nonsense comments so I can keep up my TU status?
Will pootie pics help?
This is not real pootie, but he's still adorable.
