The picture of then-Senator, Joe Biden with coffee pot in hand has been consistently posted along with a quote for many mornings within Kula's Morning Reaction series. It is what prompted the origin of this series to focus upon the transitions and daily activities of the other Executive Office holder: Vice President-Elect, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.
Today's Menu Specials:
- Aged punditry with a "light dream" sauce.
- Bitersweet MREs, cooked to serve with a strong reduction.
- Chocolate-layered cupcakes.
As always (just over the bump), I start you off with a quote from The Gentleman to mull over with your morning Joe.
3 OCTOBER 2008 --
Addressing the National Guard Unit that contains his son, Beau, and his fellow 114 members at their deployment ceremony in Dover, Delaware:
"... stand strong, stand together, serve honorably."
-- Vice President-Elect, Joe Biden
::::: APPETIZER :::::
In an 7 November article by USA Today, writer Susan Page lays out seven power-players within Camp Obama-Biden. Though the list is not in order of significance, the write up of Mr. Biden both fails to quanitfy his potential benefits and objectively places him as indispensible for the coming administration.
What I took away from the article was a great quote from a Mr. Joel Goldstein, a Professor of Law at St. Louis University who is also the nd author of a book I'm currently reading entitled The Modern Vice Presidency: The Transformation of a Political Institution.
Mr. Goldstein points out that a Vice President Biden will be similar to V.P. Dick Cheney in one, specific way.
"At 65, Biden isn't likely to be eyeing a presidential bid of his own in, say, 2016, when a second Obama term would be over."
::::: MAIN COURSE :::::
ABC reports that Delaware Atourney General and the son of the Vice President-elect, Beau Biden, has deployed after leaving Ft. Bliss, Texas with his Army National Guard unit -- the 261st Signal Brigade.
In my opinion: This is a bit too much information on the deployment of a State A.G. and son of the incoming Veep. Suffice it to say though, we'll all be thinking of Beau, his unit and all who fight to keep us safe.

Via First Read at MSNBC
From NBC's Savannah Guthrie:
According to a transition official, President-elect Obama today surprised Vice President-elect Biden one day before his 66th birthday with cupcakes after their weekly lunch. He lit the candles on the 12 cupcakes and brought them over to Biden.
Obama joked, "You're 12 years old!"
Biden laughed, replying: "Maybe in dog years!"
Then Obama led the staff in singing Biden Happy Birthday. Obama also surprised him by giving him a Chicago White Sox hat, a Chicago Bears hat, and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn as gifts.
Always a pleasure. :)
::::: THE CHECK ::::::
Thank you for patronage here at Joe's Inn!
Do tell what you think of letting too much information about Beau's Unit become public domain? How about Biden's 66th Birthday wishes? Do you think there are significant similarities/differences between a Cheney versus Biden Vice Presidency?
See you next time.
