Let me be clear on something: It doesn't really matter what reaction we have to the lopsided vote to allow Joe Lieberman to keep his gavel.
We can be righteously indignant that so many of our Senators would gladly allow a vicious and outspoken opponent of our President-Elect to chair the committee responsible for oversight of his administration.
Or we can be more conciliatory and take the position that offering reconciliation rather than revenge is the ultimate harbinger of a change in course.
In truth, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because there is one thing that we can all agree on: The United States Senate would be better if Joe Lieberman weren't in it. And there is only one group of people who have the power to make that decision: the people of the state of Connecticut.
We must defeat Joe Lieberman at the ballot box--and it's time to start organizing now.
More below.
The wonderful Jane Hamsher has set up an action pledge that you can sign right now to commit to defeating Joe Lieberman in 2012.
It may seem like a long ways off, but we all know that defeating long-entrenched Senators is not easy. And as we are campaigning for the re-election of Barack Obama, it is imperative that we continue to give him a Senate that will allow his agenda to move forward.
By signing the pledge, you can commit to making phone calls, blogging, receiving email alerts, and volunteer to have your information transmitted to the Democratic candidate (Ned Lamont, knock on wood!) who will oppose Joe Lieberman on the 2012 ballot.
Sign the pledge. Re-defeat Joe Lieberman.
The ballot box is the ultimate arbiter. Let's make it happen.
