Have to wonder if Obama and his people aren't already regretting this. What's happened to No Drama Obama? The most progressive Democratic Party battleship since the USS Woodrow Wilson suddenly is leaking like the Titanic.
Let's be clear. The stakes are high. This historical moment is too rare and fragile to risk on any one person's lack of discipline. Much less on any one person's disfiguringly self-centered sideshow.
So Britain's Guardian says Clinton will take the job and what instantly happens?
The Clinton camp plants a story saying--what else?--"She isn't even sure she wants the job..."
Right. Can't let it look like Obama rules the roost, now can we? Got to keep up those we're-still-a-force-to-be-reckoned-with-too appearances, mustn't we? Gotta get control of the story, don't we?
In the cuddly afterglow of post-election euphoria, I persuaded myself that Clinton's elevation to sec'y state was a wise move. But this deal reeks more and more with each passing day.
Obama should cut his losses. Do something forcing Bill to get unacceptably "uppity" and say, "Well, it might have been a beautiful friendship, but, adieu, and best to you and yours in all future endeavors."
Having flunked the discipline test, the Clintons and their old-school, DC-insider style of play simply aren't worth it.
Move on.
