Interviewed on BBC news yesterday morning Republican poster Frank Luntz says very clearly and unequivocally "I cannot foresee a scenario in which John McCain is elected president of the United States".
the clip is here, from about two minutes in.
There is enormous excitement in Europe about this election. Immense respect for Obama and the Obama campaign, and a recognition of how it will change the way in which the world sees the United States of America. I do not know of a single supporter of John McCain.
We hope and pray that Luntz is right. And in very difficult times - and with probably worse to come - we will be delighted if the tiller of the USA is placed in the hands of a man with such grace and thoughtfulness. We have a great deal to learn from your democracy which, though sometimes imperfect, is in so many ways more deep-rooted and more instinctual than ours.
I've been often moved and amazed by the stories I read here. Let's hope that this is only the beginning, and that Obama, and the movement for change which he embodies, and you are all part of, can have as profound an effect on the world as FDR did at a time of similar crisis nearly 80 years ago.
We are with you, America.
