This will be a short diary. It (seems to be) official now. Both CNN and Politico are breaking the story that Hillary Clinton is on track to be named Secretary of State after Thanksgiving. CNN has the story as a breaking news banner across its home page, and according to Politico:
President-elect Barack Obama plans to name Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as his secretary of state shortly after Thanksgiving, two senior Obama aides said.
The officials said they expect her to accept. Clinton aides had no comment.
The choice unites the two rivals in the most protracted presidential primary in American history, giving Obama the "Team of Rivals" Cabinet he had promised.
And the Breaking News banner on CNN has the following headline:
Barack Obama is on track to choose Hillary Clinton as secretary of state after Thanksgiving, transition aides say.
This is obviously coming directly from Obama's transition team.
UPDATE: Rimjob states in the comments that the Washington Post has the story as well:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is on track to be nominated for secretary of State in the Obama administration, transition aides said on Thursday night.
The story then rehashes the week's back-and-forth and the Bill Clinton vetting stuff, but ends with this:
On Thursday night, aides said that the vetting issues have been resolved, and the selection could occur soon, perhaps immediately after Thanksgiving.
