Well here we are. The night before the 2008 Election, and despite all my best efforts, I simply cannot sleep. I can't help think about what tomorrow holds in store for us all.
Tomorrow, we will add a verse to my generation's entry into the the story of America.
"In the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope."
I know I certainly have my hope for what tomorrow will bring. I hope that tomorrow, my generation decides what our future will be.
Tomorrow, my generation has the opportunity to take a stand. To build toward a positive future. We can write a huge entry into the positive history of the world. We can be the generation that put forward what many consider to be a rather "unlikely" nominee into the Office of the President of the United States of America. We can show the part of our country that won't vote for a man or woman based on the color of their skin that their time has passed! We can show the part our country that won't vote for a man because his middle name happens to be "Hussein" that we here in America, that our generation, is ready to move on! That we will choose our President based on what is right for our country not based on his color, or his name.
We will show that we cannot be scared into voting for or against a candidate or cause. We will show that we are informed and intelligent; that we are not just apathetic couch dwellers! We will show that we care about basic human rights! That we want no more torture in the name of America! That we do not want hate written into our Constitution! That we want our money spent on a better future right here in America, not on the wrong war!
Tomorrow, I will be lucky enough to be "inside the fences" in Grant Park in Chicago along with tens of thousands of Obama supporters (and tens of thousands more outside the fences!). No matter what happens, I am proud of our country. I am proud that we have made it this far. Tomorrow, history will be made. Tomorrow, we tell the world who we are. Are we the same country we've been since 2000? Or are we a country that has decided enough is enough and we are ready to make a change?
We are all a part of history, I can't tell you how excited I am to be here.
