I am a 5 day volunteer for Obama in Virginia. I am working in Henrico County, outside of Richmond. It's been a little chaotic, but I am feeling good. There is a lot of support for Obama here, too
Henrico County is to the northwest of Richmond. It's a fairly affluent county. Most of my efforts have been focused in some newer, affluent subdivisions. I have been surprised by the demographics in the areas where I have worked. They are multi-ethnic, more like Northern Virginia than I would have expected here. There is lots of Obama support. Based on yard signs and the number of supporters I have identified from canvassing, I would say it is 50/50 for Obama and McCain. To me that means that we will win Virginia.
I've been working in Glen Allen, an area of $500+ homes and a golf community. The extent of Obama support has surprised me. I made one woman's day when I left her a yard sign. I have even canvassed a few who told me that they always voted Republican, until this year.
Sarah Palin came to Glen Allen on Saturday night, but I have no idea how many attended the rally. Nothing like those who turned out for Obama in Manassas last night. Of course, a few precincts don't an election make, but from what I have seen, this looks very doable for us. Joe Biden is supposed to be in Richmond today. I'd love the chance to see him, but I'll be putting up door tags, I suspect. It's raining lightly, which is too bad. The weather has been glorious and the fall colors add to the experience.
