Not a long diary, but since 4:15am Tuesday I've sent out canvassing, canvassed myself, canvassed until at 7:05pm in Ohio I went to my last house to check and make sure their family voted (their whole neighborhood did for Obama), called, and then spent the night with my family. I'm opening up a second bottle of champagne, read every blog and newspaper I can to see what they said, celebrate, and then crash around 4:30am.
I'll be up 24 hours...BUT I'M HAPPY!!!
I didn't think we'd get a lot of volunteers to canvass for us here in Huber Heights, Ohio. The students at Wayne High School (lead by a teacher who happens to be a McCain supporter, but wanted bi-partisan lessons for his students) came in after 8am and volunteered. I gave them bags, listings, and door knob information to send. We gave them a "FIRED UP, READY TO GO...O-H...I-O!!!" to get them going. Off they went.
Then around 3pm I finished a partial packet around my own neighborhood when I get a call from my co-captain Helen (a wonderful woman!) to tell me the rest of the folders were done. Wonderful!!!
I can't tell you how tired, exhausted, but juiced and ready to tell the world my joy for a moment like this. The speech. The images. The tears.
I called my dad in Staten Island to tell him three generations of Hoopers are sharing the moment together. I apologized to him for drinking a bottle of champagne while talking to him. This big, black church man smiled and told me it was okay. "Drink up son, you'll be okay! You did good work!"
I'm so proud of my dad; so proud of the work I done; so proud of the work we all done. What a nation! What a world! What an AMERICA!!!
(Ooops, opened the next bottle! See you in a couple of days!!!)
