Yes.
We.
Did.
Among the innumerable celebratory stories I feel compelled to add my own.
I am a legal alien from the U.K. (not that hotbed of socialism in Lawrence, KS, but the other one). I have been here since 2003, when I started grad school, and thus far have never left.
I came close to leaving after November 2, 2004, when what bothered me was less that Bush had won than that he had attracted so many supporters in the supposedly blue states where I held fort. This place helped to keep me here.
Now? Now my faith is restored. Never again can I in good conscience consider so drastic an action as emigration purely to avoid politics here, because I will know there is hope.
Never again can I berate you Americans for your politicking. You may not feel the power of each little victory tonight, but it is there and there are countless people such as me who are moved by each and every tremor. Thank you all.
I cannot express the relief I feel at tongiht's events. Suffice it to say that never again can the question of this great nation's future affect my desire to stay in this glorious country (so long as the lovely Immigration authorities will have me).
Yn sicr, gallwn
("Yes, we can." In Welsh.)
I have neiher an interesting past nor am I from a relevant minority. I just wanted to post this to remind all of Obama's international appeal.
