Okay. It really is a new day. It is one of those historic days when we remember where we were when we heard that Obama won--that we won.
What our President Elect had to say in his victory speech was truly inspired. He knew that he faces not only all of us today but all American history, both past and future. Like Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, Obama's acceptance speech was short but profound. We must listen to him carefully. It is not so much time to party as to proceed with caution.
Now we must go on to address the many problems that our country faces. We must let go of the angry and petty tone of the election process that ended yesterday. We must be inclusive of all our neighbors in our attempts to solve the problems that face us.
Let us show with our actions that we can help and support each other whether we be blue or red or none of the above, that we can help administer genuine justice where wrongs truly need redress, and that we can make compassion, mutual respect, truth, and wisdom our guideposts for action.
By winning this election we have shown that we have the ground game. Now let's go help our new President Elect rectify the wrongs that our government has committed by doing what is right. Let's put anger behind us and look ahead toward the goal of liberty and justice for all. What comes next won't be easy. As one who practices history to make a living, it is clear that this is a major historical moment, truly a turning point in our nation's history.
We must be inclusive but remain true to our principles: we bear the mantle of history, and let us wear it with a dignity and pride that will remain a source of inspiration and unity for generations to come.
