I'm at the ER in Providence, again. If some of you recall, I have this habit of getting pancreatitis. I got severe pain today in my abdomen, so I had my roommate drive me the 20 minutes from our apartment to the hospital in Providence (RI). Now i'm sitting here waiting to be seen (it's been almost two hours) and there are some pretty interesting conversations going on.
About twenty minutes ago I went to the front desk to ask if in any way I could get pain meds. I feel like I knew the answer (NO!), but I wanted to let them know that my pain level has increased since I've been waiting here.
I turned around, and a nurse and security guard were in a heated conversation about Iraq. The security guard said we should stay there to make sure nobody else is "trained" to come to America and kill Americans. The nurse was staunchly defending the next President's opinion, saying things like "It's not our country" and "We should have never been there in the first place". The security guard wasn't having any of it. So I chimed in.
I said, "Firstly, the war is based on false pretenses. We were lied to and duped. Secondly, no terrorists are in a rush to get to America because we have AMERICAN soldiers in their backyard. They can kill them right there, never leaving the middle east. Thirdly, I think the American people spoke yesterday, and we don't want any more of these shenanigans from DC." Then I walked away and sat down. He didn't say anything to me. The nurse simply said, "Exactly."
Also, different nurses keep coming out and flipping the channels on the TV in the waiting room. One switched it to Fox News, and about ten people started snickering, then all out laughing at some of the things that are being said. Someone summed it up simply by saying, "We won. Why won't they just get over it?"
Now I'm sitting here waiting to get called. They've only called three people to go see the ER MD, and I've been here for almost two hours. Good thing my roommate and I happen to be patient people. There's an incredibly nice older black man sitting near me talking about how moved he is by the number of white people he has seen come together, all wanting change.
So, I may be in a great deal of pain (a 7/10 as of now), but I am comforted by the fact that our 44th President is a man of great morals and principles, as well as being capable of uniting our great country and restoring our standing in the world.
