With the historic 2008 Presidential Election behind us, now is a great opportunity to unite this country and get it moving in the right direction. What direction? The direction the majority of Americans supported with a landslide win by Barack Obama and the victories recorded in the Congress. Resolving the huge economic crisis inherited by the new administration, putting Americans back to work, developing new green technology for the 21st century, repairing America’s infrastructure and retooling the United States auto industry; to name a few.
Now is not the time to continue the division in Congress. Republican John Boehner within 48 hours of Obama’s presidential win wrote ""For a President-elect who promised to change the tone in Washington, it's disappointing that he is filling his White House with partisan bomb-throwers." Boehner was referring to President Elect Obama’s choice of Rep. Rahm Emanuel for his Chief of Staff. Poor, poor John; I think he is in desperate need of an attitude adjustment.
Will it be too much to ask the ‘Right Wing’ to step up and be a part of the solution and not a continued part of the problem? I would say to Mr. Boehner, if you want to change the tone in Washington then get involved in solving America’s problems or get out!
America has spoken. America supports the direction President Elect Obama will lead this nation.
There are two types of leaders in Congress. Those who seek to continue to be a part of the problem will always focus on 1) what’s wrong 2) control 3) blame 4) complications 5) deficits and weakness.
Those who seek to be a part of the solution will focus on 1) progress 2) what is working 3) resources and strengths 4) collaboration 5) what is needed 6) simplicity 7) action.
Solutions focused leaders start by using the best of who they are to create the best of what they want and the action necessary to achieve it. They focus on what is best for the populous, their assets, their opportunities, their strengths and their resources, and what they do not have, they find it and make it work.
To the John Boehners in Washington and to the RNC, to the soothsayers, to the negative Washington politicians, Republican or Democrat, it is time to lead or get the hell out of the way!
If these Washington insiders are not making a contribution to the success of America and the new Obama Administration, they need to take a back seat or step aside and let someone else be a responsible leader to support all efforts to get America moving in the right direction again. Like the old saying "Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way."
I encourage all Americans to follow the actions of John Boehner and others like him, who would attempt to continue their partisan efforts in stopping the momentum from the 2008 election. If they are not making a positive contribution to making America better, then they are making them worse.
Americans need to hold the members of Congress accountable. Now is not the time to sit back. Contact them, e-mail them, or call them. Contact John Boehner.
We need to let them know America is watching and in two more years during the Congressional election cycle, they will be on the block for either their positive support or negative inaction of the American people.
President Elect Barack Obama, election night, November 4, 2008:
This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.
Thank you. God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.
