No no no, this is not about what groups voted for or against prop 8 in CA, which stripped gay and lesbian people of a basic civil right. It's totally 100% not about that at all, so, please, no one get upset.
It's about a simpler question stimulated by something I just heard on NPR
It's about the individuals - one by one - who voted to enshrine my status as less-than-human in the CA constitution.
Some guy on Weekend America on NPR tried to say he was all tolerant and stuff.
But then he said no way can gays marry.
But what was said next pissed me off more.
When mentioned that some would then call him a "bigot," he became offended at the name and insisted it wasn't true.
So, is he a bigot?
From M-W online:
one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
Lemme see: he says we don't have the right to equal treatment under the law.
I'd vote: yes, he is a big smoking bigot.
Is there any reason he should NOT be called a bigot? Your thoughts?
Maybe I'm missing something and I SHOULDN'T have the same rights as everyone else.
He also prattled off the sad lie they all like to spout: gay marriage will be forced on churches. It's a complete lie and the guy surely knows it. But that, lying, is a different stain on his character. The main one is his bigotry.
FWIW, this is most likely the link for this story - I imagine audio will come soon after the broadcast ends.
(UPDATE) For those voting no. It'd be great if you left a comment regarding why, in your view, it's not bigotry. Could be good conversation. Reasons for yes, too, I suppose. (END Update)
