I never thought I would see the day that I would be uniquely ashamed of my country! The freaking GOP and Four DEMOCRATIC Senators actually decided to let Michigan die tonight. Believe it or not, our only savor might be Bush??
Do not get me wrong, I am not a Bush supporter. I proudly voted for Obama on November 4th but on this issue, by the time President-Elect Obama becomes President Obama, my great state of Michigan might be toast.
General Motors, that indirectly took care of well-being for the first 19 years of my life, my kids for the first 3 years of there lives (I had no health insurance so my late Daddy added them to his) and my father for over 40 years, is probably going to be NO MORE after tonight. Personally, I am hurt, sad and extremely disappointed in the state of this country that some GOP crackpots and four stupid so called Democratic Senators, voted to "Just Say No" to 14 billion dollars to keep General Motors afloat for 4 freaking months.
On my local Metro Detroit News tonight, General Motors are cutting the elevator power in the over 100 floor G.M. building in downtown Detroit, in a effort to save money. The General Motors plant that I literally grew up by my entire 38 years of my life, have a parking lot as big as the Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport that has NO ONE parking on the lot itself. No one...at all. This is a plant that had over 30,000 workers alone during the good times. No one...its a ghost town.
The plant that made fighter Bomber Planes that helped the Untied State defeat the Germans in W.W. II has no one in the parking lot. Never, ever thought I would see this day.
My house is on the corner of Chevrolet and Buick...rightly named....probably will be historical street names after the Chevrolet and Buick lines go down in flames like General Motors sure will do now. I have no idea what will happen to our Township tax base. The plant makes up 30% of it. We own our home 4 miles away from the plant. I told my husband TODAY that we should try and stop paying on the house and move out of state because WHEN General Motors fail, we probably are going to be taxed out of our home anyway.
Then a little light.....
Bank bailout funds could be used for Detroit
Sources: White House warning GOP senators Wall Street bailout funds might be used for automakers now that auto loan package has failed

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The proposal to loan $14 billion to Detroit's struggling automakers collapsed late Thursday night but the Big Three may get some money anyway.
Bush officials warned wavering GOP senators that if they didn't support the legislation, the White House will likely be forced to tap the Wall Street bailout to lend them money, two Republican congressional officials told CNN earlier.

Could it be? Could Bush out of all people provide a life vest to the people of the Great State of Michigan. Could he allow General Motors to use the TARP money as a bridge loan until President Elect Obama gets into office? Really?
Yes, Bush is considering it. Bush has recent signed on to the recent unemployment extension bill (which has been a Godsend to me as I look for a job is Michigan's tough economy...kids will have a Christmas..albeit small..thanks to Bush) last month. He extended unemployment compensation in this state an additional 20 weeks for those who regular benefits had ran out.
Now, he is going to consider the bridge loan using TARP funds. Maybe my house will be saved after all. Maybe the many older ex-General Motors workers I know personally, will not lose their medical insurance and pensions. Maybe General Motors can turn back on the elevators in the G.M. Building so workers will not have a heart attack trying to climb stairs to the 84th floor.
If Bush allows this money to be used, he will go down in Michigan as a decent President with a heart. Harry Reid, failed us, four Democratic Senators (Bucasas, Lincoln, Tester and the other ARK senator) voted against the bailout. ANY Democratic that voted against saving the jobs of the American Middle Class should be tarred and feathered in the primaries of 2009-2010.
God help us all in the great state of Michigan.
