The electricty that is. We live in southern Maine and our power has been out for the past 2 days, the cable was restored late this afternoon and the phone service is not expected to be back on until next week. Now this was nothing compared to the ice storm of 1998, but we did have some significant icing, so I wanted to share some pictures of how pretty it was when all was said and done. There are still about 65000 people without power here in Maine, but CMP is working around the clock to restore it.
The storm rolled in around mid-day on Thursday. By evening the roads and cars were completely iced up and there were numerous accidents on the secondary roads and several on the major highways. All of the power went out in Freeport at 3:30 a.m. and most were not restored until Friday at suppertime.
Those of us who live in the outer reaches of town had to wait for the tree limbs to be cleaned up before they could work on the power lines. But it's all in a winter's experience up in these parts. We survived by heading into the local coffee shops to warm up and dry off.
Friday was a beautiful but cold sunny day, and here are some of the fantastic pictures that reflect the icy wonderland that we experienced.
This was our front yard on Friday afternoon. The red house in the distance is our neighbors' place.
Here you can see the froggie looking out to the ocean behind a glassy tree.
The sky was so blue, but the trees were definitely laden with ice. If the branches come down on the wires in our neighborhood, that's it for the power!
I love the winter berries - but the birds are having a hard time getting to these babies.
I like the doggie footprints next to my own. This snow fellow looks like he is crying.
A snangle of icy bushes...don't let the kitty out in this weather!
Will Santa make his rounds this year? We'll have to wait and see if he melts before the 24th.
Thanks for reading. Have a nice Saturday evening!
