This is tricky to write.
Because I don't want to believe it. I don't even think it's true.
But... here's the basic premise - and forgive me for it, because - no surprise - I'm upset:
Rick Warren is an avowed bigot - he views my life and rights (ie, I'm gay, so I'm exactly like a rapist or a pedophile) as less then his or other Americans.
Barack Obama SPECIFICALLY chose Rick Warren to give the invocation to his inauguration. It was not a committee, it was not someone else. It was specifically President-elect Obama's choice.
Now, this is most likely the typical triangulation bullshit that all politicians do.
But... the question is fair to ask (because we would as ask, and HAVE asked this of many others, usually Republicans):
By giving such a high pulpit to an avowed bigot, does President-elect Obama agree with Warren's bigoted views?
In short (and I know the stones will be flying... It's ok if so, I understand this will piss people off):
Is President-elect Obama a bigot regarding gay people?
I am 99.999% sure the answer is no.
His actions, however - now, and a number of moments in the past - suggest the unlikely 0.001% possibility is the truth.
Perhaps his future actions will restore my faith.
But - as of this moment - I'm skeptical. And yes, in part, it's because I'm deeply hurt by this action.
Many of you, I'm betting, are going to troll-rate me, or what-not.
I can't help that. You can look back at all my posts since 2004. There aren't a lot, but they're there. And while I'm passionate at times, and usually a bit contrarian, I will like to state, fwiw, that I am not a troll, nor am I being trollish here.
Look... What I really, really want is an honest and direct answer to the question.
Ideally from him.
Spoken, not to me, but to the nation.
Update [2008-12-18 10:49:3 by HadIt]:To be clear, I, for one, am not "abandoning" Obama. I am upset and concerned and VOICING my views. This should not be discouraged, but encouraged. [end update]
