Join me over the fold to discover the reasons I took public transportation...in Los Angeles.
1. My president told me to.
No, not this guy. I said MY president.
I was lucky enough to see Al speak a couple of weeks ago here in L.A. about global warming and the destruction it's wreaking on our planet. We were members of a live studio audience for a film he's doing on the subject. I'm not sure when it will be released or what it will entail, all I know is that it's a Participant Production and the presentation was really amazing. He was relaxed, compelling, charismatic and funny -- you know, everything he wasn't when he ran for president. And yes, he urged us to use less gasoline, to conserve and force the market and our leaders to develop a hybrid energy policy. So I'm doing my part.
2. It just makes financial sense.
Gas prices are $2.99 near my house in Glendale, CA, which means filling up my tank is $30.00 (it's just a little 10 gallon Sentra.) Because of an incentive program at work, I got my monthly bus pass for $28 (discounted from $52) and I get 25% off at the dining hall.
3. Less money for Bush's oil industry fat cat buddies.
The lowering demand in the country has already led the price per barrel of oil to plummet and that just makes me smile.
4. It's easy.
Everyone thinks that in LA "you have to have a car, dude!" It's really not true. If you're in LA, I highly recommend that you find out just how easy it is to get around via public transport.
5. No road rage.
And finally...
6. Drinking and taking the bus is legal and encouraged!
