For the past two weeks, there has a great deal of "I am SOOOOO angry that Obama has done XYZ". Extraordinary. You would have thought that the Democrats lost, that hundreds pf thousands of us did not have house parties, donate money and volunteer time to canvass, sign up voters and knock on doors. You would have thought that the country elected another know nothing nicompoop who thinks running the country into the ground is sound idealogy. You would sworn that the appointing some the smartest people in the entire country, with arms full of degrees from the finest universities and even a Nobel or two, was just crappy politics as usual. You would swear to the great Spaghetti Monster that a 3 minute prayer at an invocation was enough to turn back activists who are working to halt the seizure of rights of fellow Americans- and negating the presence of Aretha Franklin, no less.
People, it's ridiculous. It really is.
It's extraordinary, really, all the huffing and puffing and outright stupid posts both here and at HuffPo. The level of outright nasty is simply appalling. It's as if the whole idea of reaching to our neighbors, working in our community and trying to help each make this country more went out the window as soon as Obama was elected.
So, here is my challenge: What are YOU doing? If you can kvetch about Rick Warren, you can host a home party or a cafe meetup for Gay Christians. If can complain and moan about the appointments to State, Energy, Commerce or other such thing, why not have meetups at your local library or town hall? Why not discuss what is going on in your town and report back, make those ministries relevant to your life? Why not use the meet up tools at your disposal on barackobama.com or change.gov?
From now on, I will start asking "What are you doing?" to the kvetching posts- and to myself.
To finish, what am I doing? I am buying Christmas gifts for battered family shelter. Soap and cosmetics, new bedsheets and spreads, candles, books- things that make starting a new home a little more sweet.
So, what are YOU doing?
