What if they changed the rules in the middle of the Super Bowl? Suppose two of the players wanted to get a jump start on each play, so after the game began they argued that they should be allowed to line up off sides (encroach on the neutral zone). Let’s say they actually began doing that and the referees caved in and let them get away with it. (They were important players and the referees felt they shouldn’t offend them by enforcing the rules.)
This is just what is happening with Michigan and Florida delegates. Before the primaries began, the DNC established rules about which states should go first. In the middle of the game, local party players in Michigan and Florida wanted to get a head start so they went ahead and jumped off sides. The question now is whether the Democratic National Committee will have the balls to enforce the rules, or is it going to be "what’s a little encroachment among friends"? Any organization that does not have rules and enforce them is no longer an organization. Is there going to be a national Democratic party or is it going to cave in and collapse?
