Am I the only one who thought Katie Couric's interview with Hillary yesterday on 60 minutes was a disgrace? As in her interview in November, she bombarded Hillary with ridiculously defeatist questions: how are you going to feel if you lose? Well, what the hell kind of question is that to ask someone who is in the middle of a heated campaign for the presidency?!
It was sublty sexist: a woman asking a woman questions a man could never ask her, while a white man asked the black man heroizing and adoring questions. The 60 minutes interview played on every sexist and race card issue out there.
And then there was the question sleazy Couric asked: is it true that the boys in high school called you "frigidaire?" I mean, really! It was just so sleazeball - even Hillary seemed shocked at the question - and with all the issues we have we have to be concerned with what some stupid "boys" called her in high school?
Well, that question perfectly encapsulates what this election is really about, if you ask me. Nothing more than a HS popularity contest - with Couric clearly a "mean girl" and a stupid one at that.
She should be fired.
Here is the first interview, from November:
Watch Katie's plastic face. "If its not you, how disappointed will you be?" "I know you're confident that its going to be you, but there is a possibility it won't be, and clearly you've considered that possibility." Listen to her condescending tone of voice! "So you never even consider the possibility?" Give me a break! doesn't she have another question?
Part I of last night's interview:
Part II of last night's interview:
Notice how the deliberatly try to paint Hillary in a bad way through manipulative editing during the montage of her day of press interviews on super Tuesday, taking only choice snippets from those interivew in order to make HIllary look robotic - playing right into all the negative sterotypes.
Watch how in part I she only asks Hillary about Barack and about what it might feel like to lose!
Now, I'm not posting it, but notice how in the interview with Barack the adoring white male interviewer doesn't ask him how it would feel to lose. Well, yea, because they would only ever ask that of a woman.
Notice how Couric tried to depict Hillary as a woman with father issues: her demanding father, etc. etc.
Its amazing to me how an interview like this - both the Hillary and Barack interviews taken together - subtly play on every single sexist and race charged meme out there and yet it gets a total pass - this is the absolute worst kind of "soft" journalism - totally manipulative. It should make everyone agnry as hell!
In The Assult on Reason Al Gore decries the role of television in degrading our political culture.
This is the kind of trash that hinders rather than helps our discourse.
Write to CBS to get Couric off the air for good!
