The Clinton campaign has sought unsuccessfully to find a winning message. It's not for lack of trying:
... Clinton has left behind a rubble of themes adopted and abandoned: At first, she was "renewing the promise of America." Then, she was "In to Win." She was "Working for Change, Working for You." She offered not just "strength and experience" but also "the strength and experience to make change happen" and "the change we need." She’s "the Hillary I know," who will "turn up the heat...turn America around." In the closing days of the race, she started offering a "new beginning."
The shifting, carefully measured words reflect some of the strengths of her campaign but some of its most visible weaknesses. They’re the product of years of meticulous polling, layers of advisers, and evidence of a detailed understanding of what Iowans and Americans want to hear. But they also reflect more perspiration than inspiration. And they don’t have a beat you can dance to.
... and that was just in Iowa!
Since then we've also seen:
Ready for Change, Ready to Lead
Ready on Day One
Big Challenges, Real Solutions
Solutions for America
...and we've all probably forgotten she started this campaign with:
Let the Conversation Begin
Now, it isn't imperative that you have a catchy slogan to win the Presidency, but this constant search for a message does tell us a few things about the Clinton campaign: A) Obviously they think it's important or they wouldn't be changing the slogan every two weeks and B) They haven't found one yet.
Failing to find a message of her own, Hillary has decided to take the low road. We're used to getting lots of snow here in Wisconsin, but the last week has seen 24 inches of mud - almost all of it coming out of Clinton campaign HQ's.
They obviously realize that time is running out. Wisconsin's poll numbers were not in their favor. Texas was tightening up. Her shot at the Presidency was slipping quickly away. So, she took the "I" road over the "We" road and went for the one tactic that could gain HER the nomination, but cost Democrats the general election in the fall. She's gone 100 percent negative.
I'm disgusted. Completely and totally disgusted with Hillary and her advisors. She's willing to leave a scorched trail behind her in WI, TX, and Ohio in order to try and miraculously save her nomination bid. To hell with the Democratic Party. If I can't win in November then NO Democrat will win.
I pray to god most voters here are wise to these cheap political tactics. I hope WI stands up and gives Barack Obama a resounding victory. This is exactly the type of politics of the past that we need to reject - and reject loudly.
