One of the things that amazes me about this heated Democratic primary contest is the degree of vitriol leveled at both Bill and Hillary Clinton by many people on this site.
The nature of the attacks are straight out of the Republican play book.
It has started spilling over into personal attacks on Clinton supporters with statements like, "I don't care anymore. I hate her so much that I just don't care what you think", and then proceed to interject some nasty comments.
I would never suggest that someone hold back for the sake of party unity, that's not where I'm coming from. I saying it because the attacks have transcended reality, and have taken on a distinct ring of pseudospeciation.
Here is a comment from a diary the other day:
We are here to take back our country... (3+ / 0-)
...from those who diminish the goodness, from those who diminish justice.
My dear friends, let your anger abate. We, as citizens of our beloved country, are now about to embark on the journey to reclaim that goodness and justice.
We are the majority. The hate mongers are but an asterick in the current history. We are the ones that we have been waiting for.
This came from a whole diary talking about Obama receiving a bracelet from a woman who lost a son in Iraq. That diary ended with this ironic paragraph:
Don't you DARE attack her for her request. Don't you dare attack Obama for acknowledging her request and don't you dare attack the diarist for being moved to post about it and share this story. He/She has every right to talk about it and express how it effected him/her.
A good guess for the reverential "Dear Leader" talk comes from Obama himself:
"My job is to be so persuasive that if there's anybody left out there who is still not sure whether they will vote, or is still not clear who they will vote for, that a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama"
Lebanon Opera House, New Hampshire. January 7, 2008.
Think about how that would be received had Hillary said that. It gives me goosebumps too, but for all the wrong reasons.
I don't know if he created that line himself, but given the recent revelations that he lifts lines like a pickpocket, I would doubt it. I don't know why I always thought "fraud", but once again my instinct is true.
Besides Mitt Romney, it seems Obama has been lifting lines from Deval Patrick. It was interesting to see this article speculate on Obama's loss in Mass to a backlash against the performance of Patrick. Obama and Patrick have much in common besides David Axelrod's words, they also have similar backgrounds and little legislative or executive experience. Patrick ran a campaign on a promise of hope. Patrick has been an unmitigated disaster for Mass.
...
Neither Obama or Clinton has had executive experience but it is undeniable that Hillary resided in the White House for 8 years. It is experience. In fact, she was given the task of reforming national health care. Many of you will point out that she failed at that, but think of how difficult that task was: to take money away from the most powerful corporations in America, and to take away the cash from so many in congress. Do you think it was a coincidence that TV was airing movies during that time that showed people dying in the crowded halls of hospitals? You may want to criticize her keeping the draft work secret, but you know and I know that once she let congress, and hence special interests in on shaping it, it would have been like ringing the dinner bell at the pig farm. In short, she attempted an honest and genuine set of reforms.
Her commitment to your health is demonstrable. Nobody knows more about health care. Obama used to criticize Clinton's health care proposal until someone pointed out that she closed the loopholes his left open. If he did the homework himself, he would have known that.
Another thing that Hillary did out of the White House is masterfully bail out her husband from a deeply personal situation that turned into a national crisis.
Bill Clinton porked a broad in the Oval office. Maybe he thought he deserved the perk for presiding over the largest economic expansion in this country's history. Maybe he thought it was deserved for fulfilling a NATO obligation without losing a single US soldier. Maybe he thought it was deserved for finally producing a surplus instead of adding to the national debt with shitty policies. Maybe lowering taxes for 15 million families or any of the other shit here. Maybe it was a moment of indiscretion. Many normal people have them.
The fact is, I think Bill Clinton was the best president in the last 40 years, and she was right next to him.
...
If Al Gore ran, we all know that he would be mopping the floor with both candidates. Why is that? I think it might have something to do with Al's substance. Al does his homework. He doesn't have to steal lines, or have others formulate policy for him. In short, he's genuine.
Want to know what an Obama presidency would be like? About as spectacular as his Senate performance. He's strongly against the war - that's why he voted to fund it 4 times. Yeah, I think fraud is a good word.
