So I've been sitting in the Fort Myers (FL) airport since noon today, waiting for a flight back to Chicago.... It's been delayed because of the weather in the Baltimore/Washington area (our plane is coming from there). All day, I've been doing my best to avoid thinking about Chicago (the weather, my work, etc.), so have been doing what I always do when I want to get my mind off of my 'real' life. Read blogs and think about the election.
At about 6PM today, I had a bit of a vision. Maybe the heat down here is just getting to me, or maybe it's because I've only eaten a potato, a spring roll, and some chex mix since breakfast, but while reading the blogs and checking up on Obama's website, I had the following vision: John Edwards, in Ohio tomorrow, standing next to Barack Obama, endorsing him for POTUS.
My rationale below the fold...
- Barack Obama has been campaigning in Texas this week. He starts his first swing through Ohio tomorrow, at rallies in Akron and Cleveland. Obama needs a bit of a boost in Ohio, especially amongst working class whites, and Edwards could provide just this type of boost. Obama plans to hammer home Clinton's support for NAFTA in Ohio, and Edwards would be the perfect person to travel the state on his behalf, echoing this message.
- A Saturday endorsement would be well-timed, as it would be the talk of the Sunday political shows, and would be featured above-the-fold on Sunday newspapers across the country. Remember that everyone thought Edwards was going to endorse Clinton last Saturday?
- I read a rumor that Edwards was meeting with Obama staffers today. I can't remember where I read it, but it wasn't substantiated, as far as I could tell.... So, take this with a huge grain of salt. But if true, why would Edwards be meeting with Obama's staff if he wasn't planning an endorsement event?
So these are my reasons.
What do you think?
