This is a diary for the rabid Obama partisan supporters who blog here. You know who you are. The ones that have to take any and every opportunity to blog every perceived misstep, slight, criticism, trash-talk or what not coming out of the Clinton campaign.
It's time for a dose of basic political strategy. Those of us in the legal world understand this, particularly those of us to go to court. It's a simple rule to follow actually:
When your opponent is embarassing him or herself, shut the hell up.
Because at that point, your opponent is their own worst enemy.
It's a hard lesson, to be sure. Lawyers in the courtroom, for instance, always want to go in for the kill. But there is a fine line between going in for the kill and attacking someone when the they've come off the rails.
Everybody knows the Clinton campaign is trouble. It is clearly coming off the rails, what with the incessant banal attacks on Obama that don't have any credibility anymore. Even some diehard Clinton supporters who have seen Obama's appeal are finally waking up to the fact that he is most likely going to be our nominee.
If you are an Obama supporter (as I am), you need to be working hard for his nomination. But that doesn't mean you give the Clinton camp the courtsey of going wild every time they float their latest attack on Obama. It's just not sticking at this point...too little, too late.
A lot of it is Rovian, to be sure. As in, project your weakness on your opponent (or try to do so). Unfortunately, unlike Rovian tatics of the past, this year they aren't sticking. Maybe because, finally, the American people really are tired of those kind of politics.
We are at the end game of this nomination battle, folks. That is going to take discipline. The discipline to promote Obama in the best light possible, and the discipline to only answer the attacks that are truly damaging.
At this point, Clinton is her own worst enemy. No need to give her a helping hand.
Just sit back, and promote your candidate. The truth will out.
