I know a lot of you called foul when fox pulled Montel after this exchange on the Fox & Fucks Morning Show:
I hate political reprisals as much as the next guy, but Montel shouldn't get any cred or sympathy for this given the pathetic nature of his show and the company he keeps. Honestly it was probably cancelled because it's horrendous and the Fox incident was just the nail in the coffin.
Why, you ask. Two reasons.
The first is the fact that Montel uses his celebrity status to endorse the front group Partnership for Perscription Assistance (PPA) who act as the philanthropic public relations arm of Big Pharma. Here's his video:
"Throughout my career in television I've tried t help people...."
Montel brings little kids with disfiguring diseases on his show to exploit them and then gives them a gift certificate to the Disney store. But that's beside the point. What kind of depraved person goes around whitewashing the reputation of Big Pharma, just so he can get some money and all the exspensive drugs he needs to prolong his own life, while the drug companies continue to lobby against the very policies that would ensure that ALL Americans would have access to these drugs?
The second reason is his relationship with psychic fraud Sylvia Browne. He has her on his show almost every day now, and she is the lowest form of human life there is.
When I was 18 my best friend killed himself because he had bi-polar. The next year, his emotionally vulnerable parents went to a similar psychic who used the same method of collecting information before the "reading" and filled in the rest with the kind of crap you would expect from a horoscope. He told them that their son had a special place in heaven taking care of all the animals because he was so kind to them while he was on Earth. Who doesn't like to think of their departed loved ones as being kind to animals?
The fact is that Sylvia Browne is a fucking fraud and there's enough proof of that to fill a library. Here's the best one:
The list gos on:
When you get to about 2:15 into this one you see Montel actually try to rationalize Sylvia's failed prediction. Anything for ratings, eh, Montel?
I could go on forever, but the point is Montel got exactly what he deserved. Really all the mainstream media networks were focussing on Heath Ledger that day. MSNBC and CNN deserve criticism for their coverage too. I dislike Fox as much as the next guy, but Montel is the worst kind of human; one who profits off of the vulnerability of others.
