Well, the Turks have managed to do what we could not.
More below the fold
A week ago I blogged about regional war in the middle east with Turkey's invasion of northern Iraq. Although I didn't write it, I suspected that the Turks would remain in northern Iraq until our withdrawal, then handle the Kurds however they wished. I was incorrect.
The Turks managed to strike at the PKK terrorists with a ground operation, then get out of Iraq a little more than a week later. Sure, they'll probably have to continue to have ongoing missions to strike at the terrorists as they reorganize into groups large enough to pose a problem. Still, right now, the Turkish troops are home and relatively safe. Maybe the Turks have learned a lesson from us.
Why don't we go this route?
It's rhetorical because we all know the answer. The Iraq War is not about terrorism. It's about US bases in the middle east to secure the oil supply, and more broadly, just good ole fashion dominance of less powerful civilizations. This is what creates terrorism, not what eradicates it.
