Perhaps the most difficult thing for an intelligent person to understand is why other people disagree with them.
Tomorrow millions of Americans will go to the polls because the only alternative is rioting in the streets. When they are finished, roughly half of them will be disappointed. This will come as no surprise. Jefferson said that democracy was the worst form of government except for all the others, and we've been doing our best for the last 200 years to prove him right. So far, our record is unblemished.
It is also been said, that in a perfect democracy, everyone would be equally dissatisfied. Now there is an equality I can get behind. If misery loves company, I'm ready to party. What do you plan to do if you are disappointed? Will you cry and hide in your room with the lights off? Will you drive by celebration parties and randomly fire gunshots into the crowd? Will you hold your breath until you turn blue, or have you tried that before? I don't care for random violence, but I have been known to crash winners' parties and eat their food.
Personally, I feel that everyone should be forced to live under a democracy, the average human being doesn't deserve a better form of government. It's a good bet that the widespread proliferation of soap has done more for humanity than democracy. If we could vote for soap, I would. But then it would probably lose. Most of the politicians I've voted for over the years have lost. Yesterday was the first time in years that a football team I rooted for has won. That was really sweet.
