This will be a short diary, as I should not even need to write this. I am seeing, in the comments sections of several major blogs, a new meme amongst some (and I emphasize the word, as it is not all) Obama supporters, somehow trying to connect the upsetting Prostitution Ring scandal of Gov. Eliot Spitzer to Hillary Clinton. Luckily, no one has been ignorant enough to claim she had something to do with it, but they are all trying to claim that this will hurt her, that the Republicans will use this against her, etc.
This needs to stop. For the love of God, freaking stop.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Senator Hillary Clinton, and anyone who tries to connect the two, is just plain ignorant. Guilt by association is something that the makers of our Constitution did everything in their powers to prevent from becoming a part of our legal system. Just because he endorsed her, does not make this a liability for Hillary Clinton, anymore than associations of Obama to corrupt supporters, with whom he did nothing illegal, make him liable.
Trying to bring up Bill Clinton's past is even worse, since the person who likely suffered most from that, what Hillary Clinton! Making the claim that the Republicans will use this to bring up this sorrid event is perhaps something to consider (or not, being that McCain cheated on his first wife, so it would likely backfire), but it should not be celebrated, as I am seeing many supporters of who I think should be the President do. The connection is lame, and celebrating a false, Right-Wing attack, is not something Progressives do.
So really, once again, stop this crap. Yes, it should be considered, but the fact is, it will likely have no real impact on the Clinton campaign, and more importantly, we as Obama supporters should not act like this is some sort of victory. Eliot Spitzer was a champion of the Progressive movement, and his failings will hurt the Progressive movement, and possibly the New York Democratic Party, more than it will hurt Clinton, which is something we should mourn, not celebrate. Even if they somehow try to connect it to Clinton, we should not help, and should do everything in our powers, as Obama supporters, and more importantly Progressives and Democrats, to fight against this.
UPDATE: Well, this was mostly directed at Obama supporters, but as ridiculous as this sounds, it looks like I now have to direct it at some Clinton surrogates as well. Really, I don't know how they can do this, but they aren't helping their side at all by trying to do this.
