The Honorable Gentleman for the 7th District of Massachusetts
Mr. Edward Markey has worked for the people of America in Congress since 1976 without fanfair or taking on airs of grandure. If you choose to look at Mr. Markey's record at some place like The Washingtom Post (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000133/)I think you'll be well pleased.
I had the good fortune to watch Mr. Markey on live TV during a congressional sub-committee meeting back in 2005 when the House was still under the control of the GOP. I wrote a diary on July 22 of that year that is still posted on dailykos and in that diary I said that I would like to see Mr. Markey as the U.S. President. I know that's not going to happen now, but if someone is looking for the most knowledgeable person on public privacy, international trade, communications, international defence cooperation, internet neutrality and a host of other tough qualities from their Vice-Presidential running mate then Mr. Markey's door is the first I would knock on.
Mr. Markey may not be interested in loosing his low national profile, he may not want the public pressure that a national campaign for Vice-President will bring or he may be so committed to the job and the people of the 7th district that he feels he needs to stay where he is. I think we'll be the looser if Mr. Markey isn't asked to be the Vice-President and encouraged to run for the office and who knows, I still might have Ed Markey as my President ----in 9 years or so.
