I'm seeing many people trying to look at the Wright situation as some part of the 'kitchen sink' strategy. As much as I would agree that Clinton surrogates have pushed race around, and many are in fact taking joy and joining the likes of Hannity in attacking Obama over this - Clinton's official campaign must be given the benefit of the doubt here, for multiple reasons.
1. It's the far right, stupid!
I mean seriously, shouldn't Hannity's bloviating on this for months, the Fox News Sunday jihad against Obama, the lying Newsmax article and Kristol column make it obvious? The reason they hit now is simply because they finally had the videos, and video speaks much louder than their insistence that Wright is looney tunes. I don't know if its a matter of specific timing, but it very well could be. The right would rather face Hillary than Obama, so releasing this right after the Ferraro thing was damaging Hillary could be the motivation. If there was nothing they could do to stop Obama, they may well have waited until October.
Releasing this now benefits the Republican party by allowing McCain to go unnoticed and keep the Dems fighting through the summer to the convention.
Regardless, it seems to me America is suffering from collective insanity, letting Fox determine the issue and the nature of Obama's character by proxy. These same people never researched Huckabee's sermons, wouldn't attack McCain's anti-Islam pastor who has also been called his 'spiritual guide'
It's all about Obama. Their concern is much more political than it is genuine concern over anything Wright has said.
2. Hillary's campaign is inept.
Every other time Hillary's surrogates have attempted to spin race into this campaign, it has resoundingly fallen flat on its face. To assume that Penn or Wolfson could successfully work with the right to smear Obama's character is absurd. It's the same logic that flies in the face of 9/11 conspiracy theorists - that Bush and co. are this inept at every turn including their own image, yet somehow capable of being behind a massive conspiracy? I don't buy it.
3. Again, its the far right, stupid!
If the Clinton campaign were to work with the right they'd turn on her the second after their teamup had reached the full extent of its effect. Like Drudge claiming the Clinton's sent him the Muslim photo, it simply wouldn't work. Whether or not the Clinton camp even DID send the photo to Drudge, the result of that flap would teach even the dumbest campaign team not to do it again.
You better believe Sean Hannity WANTS us to be blaming each other instead of rallying around Barack the same way the right rallied around McCain vs. the New York Times.
Let's use our heads, people. Obama is in part a mess of his own making over Wright, but we all know that a significant part of this is now a smear, exaggerations, media hypocrisy and omissions. How many people upset over Wright know that Barack distanced himself from Wright's comments in January 07? How many know about Hagee or Parsley? How many know of the Clinton supporting pastor who called Barack a pimp mack daddy?
Has anyone else noticed the number of people on sites such as the Huffington Post who are pretending they were Barack supporters who are now 'realizing he was a fraud'? It only takes one click of their profile names to see they had always thought this and are just filling the Internet with an image of what they hope to acheive. These fake supporters are here, there, everywhere.
As Barack said early in this campaign, there are people everywhere who are going to stand in the way of what he's hoping to acheive, and its clear they will sink to amazing depths, knowingly lying, to stop the Democratic Party. I'm seeing way too may concern posts, understandably because the message of Obama and its chances to be president have seemed too good to be true, but you are not helping anyone by sitting by and being depressed.
You need to be out there countering the phony claims and exposing the fake posters in their smear attempts. This includes both Republicans looking to further wedge the Democratic Party and certain Hillary supporters willing to destroy Obama's entire career to get the nomination. Get moving.
