Barack did exactly what he needed to do – tackled the Jeremiah Wright flap head-on in a serious, substantive speech.
He dismissed Wright's comments as "not only wrong, but divisive," and in a way that rejected spin and political positioning and called the episode out as a distraction. Obama turned things around by speaking truthfully about race and ways to unify the country. What’s next, probing the political views of his barber?
Use this moment to take action.
Voters for Obama is a coalition of voters calling for Democratic elected officials and other superdelegates to support Barack Obama.
Our website, www.votersforobama.com, has sparked petition drives to superdelegates in four states including North Carolina, where we first organized. The site contains everything voters need to contact superdelegates near them.
Take five minutes and use the tools on our site to call or e-mail an undecided superdelegate in your state.
More info after the jump.
"Working together, we can move beyond some of our old racial wounds."
- Barack Obama, March 18, 2008, Philadelphia
Thanks to everyone who e-mailed in response to the diary we posted yesterday ("Voters petitioning superdelegates for Obama in 4 states").
If the superdelegates hold the key to the nomination, we the voters can take action to help determine the outcome.
Right now, take five minutes and call or e-mail an undecided superdelegate in your state. Just say that you are supporting Barack and want the superdelegate to consider endorsing him.
We recommend contacting elected officials first - check our site’s list for your Congressperson, Senator or Governor.
To help spread the word to friends and Obama supporters in other states, you can link to us by adding one of our site's widgets to your blog or website.
About Voters for Obama
We are a diverse group of voters supporting Obama from several states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Oregon, and Rhode Island.
We first organized in North Carolina because all our congressional Democrats originally backed former Sen. John Edwards. When Edwards exited the presidential race, most had yet to endorse another candidate.
So far in N.C., over 1000 voters have signed petitions asking three superdelegates to back Obama - Democratic Reps. David Price and Brad Miller, and Gov. Mike Easley.
Visit our Get Involved page for more ways to help lobby superdelegates on behalf of Barack. Contact us at votersforobama at gmail.com for more info.
